The Editor says, "
Phoebe Starbuck has always adjusted her sails and rudder to the whims of her father. Now, for the first time, she's doing what she wants to do: marrying Captain Phineas Foulger and sailing far away from Nantucket. As she leaves on her grand adventure, her father gives her two gifts, both of which Phoebe sees little need for. The first is an old sheepskin journal from Great Mary, her highly revered great-grandmother. The other is a "minder" on the whaling ship in the form of cooper Matthew Macy, a man whom she loathes."
Phoebe's Light is a new series by Suzanne Woods Fisher. This story is about a girl named Phoebe who wanted more than anything to be loved and appreciated by a man. Phoebe also needed to find out a way to get out of debt from her father's failed inventions. When she finds out that her father has lost their house to bad decisions the only thing that Phoebe can think of is to marry the rich sea captain that has always treated her well.
Phoebe is a girl trying to find her way in this world. After she marries the Captain, that she feels like she loves, Phoebe thinks that life could not get any better than traveling all over the world with her husband. Right after the voyage begins Phoebe finds out she has been foolish. Nothing is the same as her dreams. When she finds out what her husband is really like and why he wants the diary of her great grandmother, Phoebe must rely on the wisdom of God and the diary from her great grandmother.
I really enjoyed this new book by Suzanne Woods Fisher. Usually she writes about the Amish. I like this change of pace.
